Somewhere between 40% and 67% of Americans are experiencing gastrointestinal issues, including while exercising (19%), running errands (17%), and spending time with family and friends (16%). That’s between 137 million and 228 million people per year (40% - 67% of 340 million). If the percentages are approximately the same in South Dakota that means between 370,000 and 620,000 people in our state are experiencing these symptoms (40% - 67% of 925,000).
Yes, that’s a lot.
As one might imagine, the gastrointestinal epidemic has been a cash cow for the manufacturers of Pepto-Bismol (Procter and Gamble) and Imodium (Johnson and Johnson).
One has to wonder what is creating all the issues.
Food - Could it be the chemicals in our food? Does spraying crops with glyphosate shortly before harvest impact digestion? Is the body able to properly digest genetically modified crops? Is it chemicals in ultra processed foods?
Vaccines - While research is still in its infancy and there seems to be efforts to suppress information (it is nearly impossible to find much in standard internet searches), there are studies that suggest Covid-19 vaccines significantly reduce Bifidobacteria, a beneficial gut bacterium. The absence of Bifidobacteria microbes is linked to chronic diseases, including diabetes, cancer, and autoimmune diseases. There have also been papers published that suggest a link between intestinal damage and other vaccines (this article was originally published in Lancet and appears to have been removed and then reinstated).
Drugs - Roughly 66% of adults take at least one prescription medication, and a substantial number, about 40%, take three or more. Around 18% of women are on some type of antidepressant and about 7% of kids are on some type of behavior modifying (mind altering) drug. Many of these drugs cause gut issues.
So between the shots, drugs, and food our guts are a mess. Are we slowly being poisoned?
The mass daily consumption of energy drinks is also adding to the problem.
Heck, one of the leading brands is named "Liquid Death!
Thank you for all the insightful comments about the food supply. It interesting to ponder why we are using so many chemicals. Why would we need ethanol and farm subsidies if we are not producing too much food? Maybe we need less, higher quality food.
