Yikes. WTHeck?? So….they are doing it for what, security purposes? That still doesn’t make sense…
I decline giving my email at every place of purchase. That’s an option. Can’t I have access to our state info without being tracked or getting our names in a system? Smells (kinda) off.
They have no business collecting any information on their bosses. A whole lot of tin plate bureaucrats better start paying attention to what is going in Washington and D. O. G. E.
👏 👏 Update on the lobbyist listing on the South Dakota Secretary of State website. The password requirement has been removed. You can see a complete listing of all the lobbyists here (make sure to click on the search button). Thank you Secretary Johnson!
I am a science person and I have seen a lot of problems with science recently. A lot of it does not appear to be science at all, just outcome based research.
Funny that people who were concerned about the COVID vaccine having a tracking chip now want to track anyone who wants information about state government.
There are pretty wide differences of opinion on the Covid-19 vaccine. You would have to ask Ms. Johnson, but I am guessing she was pretty supportive of the vaccine. Maybe you know something the rest of us don't but I haven't heard her mention anything about tracking chips. I have heard her insinuate that she is opposed audits of electronic voting systems because she believes computers cannot be hacked.
Those that looked for the tracking chip in the vaccine were misguided. Everyone knows the chip will be in the vaccine-antidote to be released in 2028 in response to the disease epidemic fueled by the mutating proteins response to the mRNA used in the vaccines.
Tracking chips was a claim sone Republican conservatives made about the vaccine. I don't know Ms. Johnson's personal view, but R's generally claim to be very concerned about government having people's personal information, that is until they want it for who knows what purpose. If there's no obvious need, then it's not unreasonable to suspect that the reason is sinister.
I am hoping we can move away from Ds, Is, Rs, etc. I've noticed a lot of variation within all the parties. We might be surprised who we agree with from time to time.
Lots of qualified and unqualified people everywhere including the Biden, Bush, Clinton, and Reagan administrations. Local is the place to solve problems.
Don't do anything wrong maybe. If they state wants you remail, they will get it, along with address, social, and anything else that you thought you dis not want out there. I do not agree with it, but any high school can probalby find your ,ost private info.
What a coincidence. I just received an email from CLASSMATES.COM about updated photos from some of my fellow seniors at my high school - where I attended in 1972.
“We will use advanced technology and non-partisan AI programming, to make the government more efficient and ensure this level of corruption and wasteful spending never happens again. Every dollar will be tracked, monitored and oversight will be transparent and available for everyone to see. Just ignore the part where the same efficiency system is monitoring your real ID, connecting your personage to the new govt and private sector interfaces, and click “I agree” on your next federal tax filing. Trust us Comrade citizen, the new technologically advanced DODGE approved govt system cares about responsible stewardship and your privacy. Swear.”
If something is free, you are probably the product, I forget who said it but I find it true.
What can be tracked when you send an email, it depends on what email service you are using, Google, Yahoo, Microsoft, AOL... the endless list for free email services, all scan subscribers emails, your preference and internet activity, generally their intent is to target you with ads and spam, this is how they make it 'free'.
Tracking a person via their email address in this instance is not really a thing if you are using a paid email service, the only thing that can be tracked is your IP address, list of numbers showing what server sent your email, normally your email goes through many servers, each address will be shown. (this is not your home address it is a computer address)
Prior to the State of SD requesting email addresses to access the website there were cookies. Cookies are text script stored on your computer, via the browser you use. Check to see if you browser allows cookies, cross site tracking, most have default they are 'on' you need to turn them off.
I highly recommend a paid email service and a VPN to hide your IP address, protect you from harm. Never use a free WiFi without a VPN, your computer is so exposed, literally anyone on that same free WiFi with the correct hacker software can access your info you're sending. It is safer to use your phone, cellular coms than free WiFi.
One last thing, Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act. Originally adopted in 1978 gives the gov free rein to read all emails, as we have observed they have taken liberties with our trust.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts. That's kind of like the Anheuser Busch CEO blaming the Bud Light debacle on someone in marketing. The buck stops with the person in charge. If the SOS isn't overseeing her office and the IT department did it without her approval, that's an even bigger problem.
The CEO of a beverage company will approve advertising. If you’re the CEO of a beverage company and you don’t know squat about writing code and network security, you put that into the experts hands. I don’t see the parallel you’re drawing.
My goodness look at the comments here. Some are the worst informed I’ve seen, to my point, people have very little or no idea of what’s going on in network technology and how the system of email works. My knowledge comes from working with people who do know and discussing these topics over lunch. I share that just so you understand I’m not being disparaging to anybody.
I appreciate your viewpoint. I have a technical background and have to respectfully disagree. I would argue that unless we get rid of the electronic tabulating and electronic voter roll systems, the Secretary of State has to be well versed in technology and electronic security. We are having issues with audits and security, because she appears to have no expertise in this matter and is delegating without oversight. Sadly she has opened up the state to all kinds of unnecessary issues.
Maybe to keep from being bothered by people either homeless or low tech who don't use email. Why be bothered with them. If they can't keep up, they don't count, right? Or just to keep up the never-ending information grab on everyone. Who knows, maybe they have the same reason that I have to RE-AUTHENTICATE my email every time I go to post a comment of SD Voice.
Thank you for bringing that up. It could be an issue with your browser permissions. If you have checked that, it might make sense to reach out to Substack?

Why the change?... never needed it before....???? Taking away the right to information that should be transparent! What is the SOS hiding

Anyone that believes the voting computers can't be hacked are so so mistaken.

Agreed, but seeing the R's fall in line to confirm Trump's clearly unqualified nominees, is very discouraging.
Lots of qualified and unqualified people everywhere including the Biden, Bush, Clinton, and Reagan administrations. Local is the place to solve problems.
Which is exactly opposite in what she campaigned and got elected on.

Well, you all voted for her so live with what you voted for.
The IT folks decide these methods to secure the website, not Sec of State.
