Yikes. Conspiracy fantasies -- they're not "theories" in any useful sense of the term -- are attractive to certain personalities for the same reason that more traditional forms of faith-based ideation are: They make our increasingly complex information environment simpler, more emotionally comfortable. Aircraft contrails, the exhaust from jet engines, e.g., are invisible, briefly visible, or persistent depending on the temperature and humidity of the air through which the aircraft is flying. Under certain conditions of humidity and temperature, this exhaust can result in ice crystals in the contrail which, depending on the angle of the sun, can be iridescent, a lovely rainbow of colors: frozen water, not a pernicious "chemtrail". Pure, and not very complicated, science, a dirty word in Trumpianity, I know, and without the thigh tingle of that People-are-out-to-get-me egocentricity, eh.
